MacIan Modern Light Weight Tartan. MacIan is the clan name given to the MacDonalds of Glencoe. Chief of the clan "Mac, Vic Ian" descended from the ancient Lords of the Isles, and from the Royal Family. In the role of the Clans in 1587 this Clan was described as Clan MacIain of Avricht, or Abrach. The MacIains, or MacDonalds of Glencoe, are best remembered for being the victims of the savage Glencoe massacre in which the Campbells (supporters of William of Orange) virtually wiped out this small clan after spending several days as the guests of MacDonalds of Glencoe in Glencoe.
